The rate of taxi fares in Dubai per kilometre has risen once again in the city. According to the Dubai Taxi Company website, the per-kilometre rate is now Dhs2.14 when using a S’hail with RTA and when ordering with Careem. This is a drop from the previous rate of Dhs2.21 per kilometre. All those fils add up!
Earlier in the year, it was Dhs2.09 per kilometre, and before that, it was Dhs1.97 per kilometre to get a taxi. Taxi fare rates fluctuate based on several factors, including the cost of petrol, which has been getting more expensive this year.
Petrol Price Influence:
Petrol prices per litre for June in the UAE now stand at:
- Dhs3.14 for Super 98 petrol
- Dhs3.02 for Special 95 petrol
- Dhs2.95 for E-plus 91 petrol
- Dhs2.88 for diesel
Before June, January was the last month in which petrol prices decreased in the UAE, with rates per litre at:
- Dhs2.82 for Super 98
- Dhs2.71 for Special 95
- Dhs2.64 for E-plus 91
- Dhs3 for diesel
Base Fare and Calculations:
Base fares for taxis remain at Dhs12. You can calculate how much you’ll pay for a taxi ahead of time if you’re working with a budget.
The overall fee at the end of your journey will take your base fare and per kilometre into account, as well as the time spent in the car. When ordering with an app, you’re given a rough estimate of how much each journey will cost you before you book.
Fare Increases and Dynamics:
Taxi fares haven’t increased substantially since July 2022, which also followed months of fuel price rises worldwide.
RTA says that any change in taxi fares is dynamic and based on fluctuating fuel prices in the local market, calculated based on fuel usage per kilometre in its cars.
Financial Growth:
In the first three months of this year, the Dubai Taxi Company (DTC) has continued to grow financially, with revenue up 15% on the previous year.
This growth is driven by more and longer trips from the Dubai public, as well as higher tariffs. Revenue for the DTC has also been supported by additional taxis in its fleet, including doubling its fleet at Dubai International Airport.
