Subtitle: Six additional weekend services have been added between Abu Dhabi and Dubai as Etihad Rail responds to what it calls “exceptional” early passenger demand.
Etihad Rail has expanded its passenger services between Abu Dhabi and Dubai after recording strong demand just days after the launch of inter-emirate passenger operations.
The national railway operator added six additional weekend services, providing more than 2,000 extra seats across Saturday, October 3, and Sunday, October 4.
The move comes during the first week of passenger train operations between the two emirates and provides an early indication of interest in rail travel across the UAE.
Extra Abu Dhabi-Dubai Services Added
More than 1,000 additional seats were made available across three new services on Saturday, with another 1,000-plus seats added through three additional services on Sunday.
The extra trains operate at the same scheduled times on both days.
An additional service departs Abu Dhabi for Dubai at 12:14 p.m., followed by a Dubai-to-Abu Dhabi service at 1:43 p.m.
Another Abu Dhabi-to-Dubai service departs at 4:43 p.m.
Tickets for the additional services went on sale at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 2.
Etihad Rail said the increase in capacity was prompted by strong customer interest and what it described as “exceptional early demand” for passenger rail services.
Passenger Rail Launches Across the UAE
The additional services come just days after Etihad Rail began passenger operations connecting Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Al Dhaid on September 30.
The launch marked a significant expansion of the UAE’s inter-emirate public transport network, giving passengers a rail alternative for journeys between major destinations.
The Abu Dhabi-Dubai connection is expected to play an important role in the national passenger network as rail travel becomes increasingly integrated into the UAE’s wider transportation system.
Strong Early Demand
The decision to add trains so soon after the launch highlights the initial demand for passenger rail travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
By adding six services over a single weekend, Etihad Rail has increased available capacity while giving more passengers an opportunity to experience the new inter-emirate rail connection.
The early expansion also signals the railway operator’s willingness to adjust services in response to passenger demand as the UAE’s national passenger network enters its first phase of operations.
