Non-Emirati citizen students from select categories can now apply for admission to UAE public schools for the upcoming academic year. Students in grades 2 to 12 can enroll, provided they meet specific conditions.
Eligible Categories:
The Emirates Foundation for School Education has announced that the following groups are eligible for admission:
- GCC nationals
- Children of diplomats
- Holders of Emirati passports
- Holders of decrees
- Holders of Comoros passports
Additional Qualifications:
The student’s parent must be employed in a government, semi-government, or local entity to qualify for admission. Furthermore, the student must maintain a minimum grade of 85 percent in Arabic, English, and Maths.
Both the student and their parents must have valid UAE residence visas. Notably, the number of non-citizens accepted will not exceed 20 percent of the total student strength in each classroom.
School Fees
The UAE offers free school education to:
- UAE nationals
- Holders of UAE passports
- GCC citizens
- Children of holders of nationality by decrees issued by the UAE’s President or Vice President
Expat students are permitted to attend public schools on payment of Dhs6,000 as tuition fees and are subject to the conditions above.
Language of Instruction:
The language of instruction in the UAE’s public schools is Arabic for all subjects. The schools follow the Emirati national curriculum, which is approved and supervised completely by the Ministry of Education. English is taught as a second language for basic grammar and comprehension.
