Dubai Municipality has introduced a new platform enabling the public to propose names for new roads and streets in Dubai.
Community Participation:
The initiative, overseen by the Dubai Road Naming Committee, aims to foster community involvement in promoting Dubai’s rich cultural and historical identity.
While proposing names, it’s important to note that the suggestions must celebrate Dubai’s identity, highlighting its history, heritage, values, and cultural richness. Personal names are not permitted.
Cultural Significance:
Proposals should align with specific classifications such as Arabic and Islamic design, architecture, art, culture, and Arabic poetic prosody. Names inspired by local flora, fauna, marine life, environmental sustainability, and historical landmarks are encouraged.
The committee recently named roads in Al-Khawaneej inspired by local trees, plants, and flowers, such as Ghaf Street, Sidr, Reehan, Faghi, Samer, and Shareesh.
How to Submit Proposals:
To propose a name, visit roadsnaming.ae. Ensure your suggestion aligns with the guidelines and cultural significance the committee requires.
Reflecting on the importance of names, contrary to Shakespeare’s notion in Romeo and Juliet, Dubai emphasizes the cultural and historical significance of street names in preserving and promoting its heritage.
