Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed plans for a new road infrastructure project to alleviate traffic congestion and improve city connectivity. The initiative includes the construction of a single-lane, 300-metre bridge that will provide a direct connection from Sheikh Zayed Road to the Mall of the Emirates.
Benefits of the New Bridge:
The new bridge is anticipated to significantly reduce travel time for motorists from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali to the Mall of the Emirates. The travel time is set to decrease from 10 minutes to just one minute. This improvement will help ease traffic congestion and streamline access to one of Dubai’s major shopping destinations.
Additional Road Improvements:
The Dhs165 million road project also encompasses several other enhancements:
- Widening of the Umm Suqeim Intersection Ramp: This upgrade will reduce travel time from 15 to 8 minutes.
- Surface Road Improvements: The project resurfaces 2.5 km of roads surrounding the Mall of the Emirates.
- Signalized Intersections: Three new signalized surface intersections will be developed.
- Bus Station Modification: Adjustments will be made to the bus station at the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station.
- Street Conversion: The street adjacent to the Kempinski Hotel will be converted from one-way to two-way.
- Enhancements to Pedestrian and Cycling Lanes: Improvements will be made to pedestrian and cycling facilities.
Additional Works:
The project also includes:
- Paving and lighting upgrades
- Installation of new traffic signals
- Rainwater drainage system improvements
- Landscaping work
