New 30km line to feature the world’s tallest metro station, marking a transformative milestone in the city’s transit future
In a landmark moment for the future of urban mobility, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, officially laid the foundation stone for the Dubai Metro Blue Line. The ceremony, held on June 5, 2025, signifies the next major leap in the city’s commitment to sustainable, smart, and world-leading infrastructure.
Stretching across 30 kilometers, the Dubai Metro Blue Line is poised to become a vital artery in the emirate’s ever-expanding public transport network. What sets this line apart is not only its scale, but its ambition. Once completed, the Blue Line will be home to the world’s tallest metro station, soaring to an impressive 74 meters — an engineering marvel that reaffirms Dubai’s position at the forefront of global innovation.
“This project reflects our vision to create the most advanced and efficient urban transportation system in the world,” said Sheikh Mohammed during the ceremony. “Every new line, every new station, is an investment in the future of our people, our economy, and our environment.”
The new line will seamlessly connect vital communities and business districts, offering an efficient alternative to car travel, reducing congestion, and significantly lowering carbon emissions. As with previous phases of the metro, the Blue Line will be fully automated, integrating cutting-edge driverless train technology and sustainable design features.
The foundation stone ceremony also highlights Dubai’s continued efforts under the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan — a visionary roadmap that emphasizes livability, sustainability, and smart mobility. With its expected completion in the years ahead, the Blue Line will link new urban developments to existing metro lines, creating a more connected and accessible Dubai for residents and visitors alike.
The Dubai Metro system, first launched in 2009, has grown to become a hallmark of the city’s infrastructure achievements, setting benchmarks across the region for reliability, cleanliness, and user experience. The Blue Line promises to carry this legacy forward, with groundbreaking enhancements and architectural wonders such as the towering 74-meter-high metro station, which is expected to become a new city landmark.
As construction begins, the laying of the foundation stone by Sheikh Mohammed not only signals the start of a major transportation project — it also reaffirms Dubai’s unwavering commitment to building a smarter, greener, and more connected future.
