Qais Ahmad's Brilliant Bowling and Solid Batting Performances Lead Dubai Capitals to Dominant Victory Over Desert Vipers

Qais Ahmad’s match-winning performance propels Capitals to victory, securing second place in the league stage

Dubai Capitals delivered a sensational all-round performance in their final league match of the ILT20 Season 3, securing a nine-wicket win over the Desert Vipers on Monday. The result not only handed them the much-needed victory but also propelled them to second place on the points table with 12 points from 10 matches, just behind the Vipers, who finished atop with 14 points.

The Capitals’ remarkable performance with the ball restricted the Vipers to a modest total of 137 all out in 19.4 overs. Afghan leg-spinner Qais Ahmad was the star of the show, claiming 4 wickets for 25 runs. Despite a solid 44 from Dan Lawrence, the Vipers faltered, losing eight wickets for just 55 runs after being comfortably placed at 82 for 2.

Chasing down the target, the Capitals cruised to 138/1 in just 17.1 overs, with Shai Hope (52 not out off 54 balls) and Gulbadin Naib (55 not out off 31 balls) anchoring the chase. The two batsmen steered the team home with ease, maintaining steady partnerships to complete the victory with over two overs to spare.

The win sets up a highly anticipated Qualifier 1 clash between the Capitals and Vipers on Wednesday in Dubai. The winner will secure a spot in the final, while the loser will face the winner of the Eliminator between MI Emirates and Sharjah Warriorz for a chance to reach the title decider.

Desert Vipers captain Lockie Ferguson remained optimistic despite the loss, acknowledging Qais Ahmad’s exceptional bowling and his team’s overall solid performance throughout the season. “We’ve been outstanding, and a little blip at the end won’t change anything. We’ll be back for the playoffs,” Ferguson stated.

Qais Ahmad, the Player of the Match, expressed his satisfaction with his performance, particularly with the crucial dismissal of Sam Curran. “The wicket was great for spin, and I’m happy with my four wickets,” Ahmad said.

With both teams looking to secure their spot in the final, the stage is set for a gripping conclusion to ILT20 Season 3.
