Dubai traffic congestion is a well-known issue, but significant efforts are being made to alleviate this problem. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed a major project to improve traffic flow and reduce travel times around the city, particularly in the Dubai Harbour area.
Project Overview
On Sunday, June 30, the RTA unveiled a Dhs431 million project to enhance the road infrastructure around Dubai Harbour. This initiative is expected to facilitate the movement of up to 6,000 vehicles per hour, drastically reducing travel times from 12 minutes to just three minutes in the vicinity.

Infrastructure Enhancements
The project concerns the construction of a two-lane bridge in each direction, extending 1,500 meters from Sheikh Zayed Road to Dubai Harbour. This unique residential seafront destination is home to the largest marina in the region.

- Starting Point: 5th intersection on Sheikh Zayed Road (near the American University in Dubai)
- Ending Point: Dubai Harbour Street
- Path: Through the intersection of Al Naseem Street with Al Falak Street and over the hub of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street up to Dubai Harbour
Surface Improvements
In supplement to the bridge, the project includes surface improvements at four key intersections:
- Fifth Intersection on Sheikh Zayed Road
- The intersection of Al Falak Street with Al Naseem Street
- The intersection of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street with Al Naseem Street
- Dubai Harbour Street
Project Partners
The RTA has awarded the construction contract in partnership with Shamal Holding, an investment firm responsible for Dubai Harbour Residences. Shamal Holding believes that this project will significantly improve the quality of life for citizens and visitors.
