Dubai Police have announced installing new ‘silent’ radar cameras throughout the city. Unlike traditional speed cameras, these new devices are less conspicuous and are designed to detect a range of traffic violations beyond just speeding.
As reported by the Khaleej Times, the grey and black striped poles will be placed in more residential communities to promote safer driving practices.
They are called ‘silent’ because they do not flash when a violation is detected. These radar cameras are equipped to monitor drivers for various offenses. Key infractions include using a handheld mobile phone while driving, which can result in a Dhs800 fine and four points on the driver’s license, and not wearing a seatbelt, which can lead to a Dhs400 fine and four points on the license.
In terms of speeding, the fines vary based on the size of the speed limit exceeded:
Dubai Police have assured that all footage captured by these new cameras will be double-checked before fines are issued. This ensures the accuracy and fairness of the traffic enforcement process.
In a further move to enhance safety and security, Dubai Police announced on July 23 the deployment of drones in residential areas to improve emergency response times.
These drones, identifiable by their distinctive blue markings, are part of a larger strategy to use advanced technology for emergency services. The initiative aims to protect the community proactively.
Additionally, Dubai Police offers a free service where officers conduct patrols around residents’ properties while they are away on holiday.
This preventative measure provides peace of mind to residents, ensuring their homes are protected in their absence.
