Spain’s victory over Argentina became the most-watched broadcast in beIN SPORTS history as World Cup coverage generated billions of views, impressions and engagements across MENA.
The FIFA World Cup 2026™ delivered historic moments on the pitch, but across the Middle East and North Africa, it also produced unprecedented broadcasting numbers.
beIN SPORTS has announced a record-breaking cumulative viewership of 6.2 billion across the 39-day tournament, marking the largest broadcast audience in the network’s history. The figures, independently measured by Ipsos, highlight the extraordinary appetite for football across the MENA region and the scale of engagement generated by the expanded 48-team tournament.
From late-night kick-offs to dramatic knockout matches, audiences across the region followed the competition in remarkable numbers, culminating in a record audience for Spain’s victory over Argentina in the final.
A Final Watched Across the Region
When Ferran Torres scored in extra time at New York New Jersey Stadium to secure the world title for Spain, 245.4 million viewers were watching across MENA.
According to beIN SPORTS, that represented 68.6 percent of the region’s total adult population and made the match the most-watched broadcast in the network’s history.
The final was only one of several matches to attract enormous regional audiences.
Egypt’s Round of 16 encounter against defending champions Argentina drew 192.6 million viewers, setting a new record for a match involving an Arab national team.
The tournament’s closing stages also delivered exceptional figures, with 171.3 million viewers watching Argentina’s dramatic semi-final comeback against England and 168.8 million tuning in for Spain’s victory over France.
Even the third-place play-off became a major television event, attracting 162 million viewers as England defeated France 6-4 in a high-scoring contest.
The match also saw Kylian Mbappé, the tournament’s eventual Golden Boot winner, become the FIFA World Cup’s all-time leading goalscorer with 22 goals across three tournaments.
Football Passion Defies the Clock
One of the clearest indicators of the region’s dedication to football was the strong viewership recorded despite challenging match timings.
A number of major games kicked off at 01:00, 04:00 and 06:00 MECCA, yet audiences continued to tune in in extraordinary numbers.
In total, 22 matches attracted more than 100 million cumulative viewers on beIN SPORTS.
Portugal’s Round of 16 meeting with eventual champions Spain reached 152.1 million viewers, while Brazil’s clash against Norway attracted 138.3 million.
The numbers demonstrated that neither distance nor time difference could reduce the enthusiasm surrounding the biggest World Cup ever staged.
A Landmark Tournament for Arab Football
The 2026 tournament was particularly significant for Arab football.
A record eight Arab nations participated, contributing to a tournament that also featured unprecedented representation from Africa.
Across 29 matches involving teams from the Arab world, beIN recorded a cumulative audience of 2.1 billion viewers.
Egypt reached the Round of 16 for the first time, while Morocco continued its impressive World Cup story by progressing to a second consecutive quarter-final.
Morocco’s quarter-final appearance alone attracted 151.6 million viewers.
The performances strengthened the tournament’s connection with audiences across MENA, creating shared moments of regional pride throughout the competition.
Mohammed Al Bader, Managing Director of beIN Channels – MENA, described the figures as evidence of football’s unique position in the region.
“This was a FIFA World Cup™ of unprecedented records, the most goals, most teams, and now, the biggest broadcast audience in beIN’s history,” Al Bader said.
“Reaching 6.2 billion cumulative viewers across 39 days tells a powerful story about what football means to this region. We are honoured to have been the exclusive home of every moment of it, and prouder still that when Arab teams made history on the pitch, the entire region experienced it together on beIN.”
Digital Platforms Reach Billions
The record-breaking performance extended well beyond traditional television.
Across beIN SPORTS’ social media platforms, World Cup content generated approximately 16.96 billion impressions and 7.77 billion video views.
More than 311 million engagements were recorded across over 11,000 tournament-related posts, while 12.2 million new followers joined the network’s social media channels during the 39-day competition.
The final produced particularly strong digital numbers.
On YouTube, the Spain versus Argentina final attracted 26 million cumulative viewers and reached a peak of 3.8 million concurrent live viewers as Spain lifted the trophy.
beIN CONNECT also recorded 9.9 million cumulative views during the tournament, alongside more than 95 million minutes watched.
Together, the figures underline the increasing importance of digital platforms in the way major sporting events are consumed across the region.

For beIN SPORTS, the expanded tournament translated into equally historic audience numbers.
