Abu Dhabi is expanding its taxi network with 800 new vehicles as authorities seek to strengthen connections to Zayed International Airport and meet growing demand for transport across the capital.
The expansion is being carried out by Abu Dhabi Mobility, the emirate’s Integrated Transport Centre, in partnership with Abu Dhabi Airports.
The initiative is aimed at improving connectivity for airport passengers while expanding public transport options as Abu Dhabi continues to attract international visitors and residents.
500 Luxury Taxis to Serve Airport Passengers
Under the new initiative, 500 luxury taxis will be dedicated to serving passengers travelling to and from Zayed International Airport.
The vehicles are intended to provide additional capacity during peak periods and help meet rising demand for airport transportation.
A further 300 taxis have already been introduced across Abu Dhabi to support the wider public transport network and respond to the needs of the emirate’s growing population.
The combined expansion will add 800 vehicles to the city’s taxi fleet.
Abu Dhabi Expands Airport Transport Options
The taxi expansion comes as Abu Dhabi continues to develop its transportation network and provide visitors with more options for reaching the capital’s main aviation hub.
The emirate attracts millions of visitors each year, increasing the importance of reliable airport connections and efficient ground transportation.
The partnership between Abu Dhabi Mobility and Abu Dhabi Airports is intended to strengthen the link between the airport and the wider city while supporting the continued growth of Abu Dhabi’s tourism and transport sectors.
Etihad Rail Partnership Adds Another Connection
The latest taxi expansion follows a separate partnership announced in September between Etihad Airways and Etihad Rail.
The agreement includes plans to introduce shuttle services connecting Mohamed bin Zayed City Station with Zayed International Airport, giving passengers another option for travelling between the rail network and the airport.
Etihad Airways Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer Arik De said the partnership could create new opportunities to connect air travel with destinations across the UAE while supporting tourism and improving convenience for travellers.
The agreement will also explore integrated air and rail booking experiences and station-based passenger services.
Abu Dhabi Tourism Sector Continues to Recover
Abu Dhabi’s transport expansion comes as the emirate’s tourism industry continues to recover from disruption caused by regional instability.
While geopolitical uncertainty has affected travel and airline operations in the region, tourism activity in Abu Dhabi has shown signs of renewed momentum, with visitors returning to the capital.
The expansion of airport taxis, alongside planned air-and-rail connections, reflects efforts to ensure that Abu Dhabi’s transport infrastructure keeps pace with demand and supports the emirate’s longer-term tourism and economic development.
