Etihad Rail has partnered with Citymapper to make travel planning more convenient for passengers across the United Arab Emirates, integrating rail services into a wider journey-planning platform.
The collaboration aims to simplify end-to-end journeys by allowing users to view and compare routes that combine Etihad Rail services with metro, bus, on-demand transport and other mobility options.
The announcement follows the rollout of the UAE’s national passenger rail network on September 30. According to the supplied report, services are operating in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Dhaid and Fujairah.
Citymapper Brings Multiple Transport Options Together
The Citymapper integration is designed to help passengers plan connections between different forms of public transport, making it easier to assess available routes before setting off.
Rather than planning each leg of a journey separately, users can compare travel options that combine rail services with other modes of transport. The aim is to make public transport more accessible and convenient for people travelling across the UAE.
Citymapper will complement Etihad Rail’s existing digital channels. Passengers will continue to use the Etihad Rail website and official app to book and manage train journeys, while Citymapper will help them plan connections across the wider transport network.
As the passenger network expands, the partnership is intended to support a more connected travel experience, from the initial journey plan to the final destination.
Etihad Rail Focuses on Passenger Experience
Etihad Rail passenger services form part of the UAE’s broader efforts to improve connectivity, expand travel opportunities and encourage greater use of public transport.
Adhraa Al Mansoori, Executive Director of Commercial and Support at Etihad Rail Mobility, said that giving passengers greater choice and confidence is central to the company’s approach.
“As our network expands, we want customers to feel that planning a train journey is simple, clear and fits naturally to the way they already move across the UAE,” Al Mansoori said.
She added that working with partners such as Citymapper would help passengers make informed travel decisions and make public transport a more practical option for everyday journeys.
Transport Partners Support Integrated Mobility
Lionel Joseph, Head of Operations at United Trans, said collaboration between transport providers, operators and technology companies is essential to creating a more integrated mobility network.
He described the initiative as a step towards making public transport more connected, accessible and convenient for passengers across the UAE.
Chris Snyder, Chief Operating Officer at Via, also highlighted the growing expectation that transport networks should work together as a seamless experience.
By incorporating Etihad Rail services into Citymapper alongside other transport modes, the partnership aims to give passengers a more intuitive way to navigate the country.
United Trans and Via have supported mobility initiatives across the UAE, including on-demand public transport services in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Ajman.
A Step Towards More Connected Travel
The Citymapper partnership reflects a wider shift towards integrated journey planning, where passengers can compare different transport options through a single platform.
For UAE travellers, the integration could make it easier to combine train journeys with local transport and plan trips with greater confidence. As Etihad Rail’s passenger network develops, digital partnerships are expected to play an important role in connecting services and improving the overall travel experience.
