Clarita de Quiroz Returns with “Wizard”: A Musical Spell of Transformation and Culture

In an exclusive Dubai Magazine interview, Clarita opens up about her comeback single, blending Arabic fusion with classical-pop roots, and stepping back into the spotlight with bold new energy.

After a ten-year hiatus, renowned classical-pop artist Clarita de Quiroz makes a striking return to the music scene with her new single “Wizard”, released under Believe Arabia. The track captures a fusion of personal storytelling, cinematic soundscapes, and subtle Middle Eastern influences—a fresh chapter in Clarita’s musical journey. In this exclusive interview with Dubai Magazine, Clarita shares her creative process, her inspiration, and what it means to reintroduce herself to the world through this powerful single.

Q: Clarita, congratulations on your new single! Can you tell us about Wizard, what’s the story behind the song?
Thank you! Wizard is a very personal piece for me. It’s about someone who has this incredible, almost magical ability to transform your world – to take darkness and turn it into light. Lyrically, it draws from that feeling of admiration and unique connection, almost like they’re casting a spell on your life, in the most positive, innocent, agenda-less, way. It’s soulful, cinematic, but with a modern and unexpected twist. His personality is brought through in the music as well as the lyrics. I genuinely believe that he has no idea how special he is, and what he can do for people. He just is rare, and he is a Wizard. That’s what I call him. It has come of a place of pure love and trust. Some people, you cannot explain why they are just as special as they are, so I felt like explaining it in music.

Q: We heard there’s an Arabic fusion in this track. What inspired you to bring that element into your music?
Yes, and I’m so excited about this! I’ve been immersing myself in Arabic culture for the majority of my years, and I’ve even started Arabic lessons which are going consistently but my progression is slow! I am super busy but, this is a new form of learning for me, and I am finding it challenging, but very rewarding! It felt natural to reflect that journey in my music. The Arabic scales and instrumentation add this haunting beauty to the track. It’s my way of honouring the region that has become such a big part of my life and artistry. I wanted to blend my classical roots with contemporary pop and subtle Middle Eastern flavours to create something truly unique. I still think the track still sounds like a “Clarita de Quiroz” composition. This was a bit tricky to maintain this, but I think we achieved this.

Q: How did the collaboration with Believe Arabia come about?
Believe Arabia has been incredible. They really understood my vision from the start. I was looking for a label that supported artistic freedom but also had a strong regional presence, especially since this project is so connected to the Middle East. Signing with them felt like the perfect fit to bring Wizard to life and reach new audiences across this region and beyond. It’s been a while since I was signed to a label, I was a bit nervous at first, but seeing what they can do very quickly, and so efficiently was impressive! I feel very supported and I really Believe, excuse the pun, that I chose the right label for me.

Q: After such a long break from releasing music, how does it feel to be back with a single and video?
It honestly feels surreal. There’s a mix of nervous excitement and pure gratitude. I’ve grown so much during these years, both personally and musically, and I finally feel ready to share that evolution with the world. Creating the video was a beautiful process too, we really wanted to visually capture the magic and mystery of the song. It’s like reintroducing myself to my audience, but with all the lessons and experiences of the past decade woven in. How the industry works today now in the music business has completely and utterly changed, so that was a couple of months studying also (which completely stressed me out) however, I am adjusted and acceptance has been made, and I am ready.

Q: What were some of the biggest changes or challenges you faced in returning to the studio and releasing new work?
The biggest change was probably my mindset. Before, I felt a lot of pressure to fit into certain molds. Now, I create for the pure love of it. The industry has also changed massively, especially with the rise of digital platforms and independent artistry, so I had to learn the “ins and outs”. But it’s empowering too, you can connect directly with your listeners like never before. Creatively, I’ve allowed myself to experiment more freely, and that’s been liberating.

Q: When is Wizard officially being released?
Wizard will be out on May 16th, 2025, on all streaming platforms. Mark your calendars!

Q: How does Wizard reflect where you are in your life and career right now?
That’s a great question. It’s almost like a mirror of my journey. The song is about personal transformation and seeing the beauty in someone else’s power to inspire you. It feels very aligned with where I am, embracing new beginnings, honouring the past, and stepping into my power as an artist, as a woman, and as a storyteller. It is also quite important to show that I am willing to take new risks! Maybe I’ve overstepped here, however, it’s true to what I want to do.

Q: What message do you hope your fans, both old and new, will take from this single?
Wizard is a reminder that magic is real, not in a fairytale sense, but in the way people can truly change our lives for the better. Whether it’s love, friendship, or even your own inner spark, I want listeners to feel that transformative energy.

Q: Looking ahead, will there be more music following Wizard? Maybe an album?
Absolutely! Wizard is just the beginning. I’m already deep into writing and recording more music and we are working on the next songs. The next chapter will continue to explore this blend of sounds, classical, pop, and Arabic influences, but each track will have its own story.

Q: Do you feel your sound has matured over the years?
Without a doubt. I’ve lived a lot of life since my last releases, and that depth naturally comes into the music. My sound has matured emotionally and sonically, I’m braver with my choices, more open to vulnerability, and I care less about fitting into categories. I just want to create honest, moving music.
