Actor’s actions are alleged to have led to a tragic stampede, causing the death of a woman and leaving her son critically injured
Indian actor Allu Arjun was released from Hyderabad’s central jail on Saturday morning after spending a night in custody following a deadly stampede incident at Sandhya Theatre on December 4. The actor had been granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court, which required him to furnish a bond of Rs50,000 (approximately Dh2,160). Despite the bail order, Arjun had to remain in jail overnight due to delays in the paperwork, prompting frustration from his lawyer, Ashok Reddy, who criticized the legal detention as unlawful.
The stampede occurred when a large crowd gathered outside the theatre to catch a glimpse of the popular actor during a screening of his latest movie Pushpa 2. According to the police, Arjun’s actions played a significant role in the chaos. Reports suggest that the actor stood up through the sunroof of his vehicle and waved to the crowd, which resulted in fans rushing towards the entrance of the theatre. Meanwhile, his private security team allegedly pushed people aside to make way for the actor’s vehicle, further escalating the situation. Tragically, a 39-year-old woman lost her life in the stampede, and her son was left critically injured.
The police stated that despite being alerted about the large crowd, Arjun and his team failed to take appropriate action. They claimed that Arjun’s extended presence in the theatre, which lasted over two hours, and his failure to respond to the escalating situation led to the unfortunate incident. Following the release of the actor, heavy security was stationed outside the Chanchalguda Central Jail to manage the crowd of supporters who had gathered for his release.
The incident has sparked debates regarding celebrity responsibility in managing large crowds and the safety protocols needed to prevent such tragedies.
