Wamiqa Gabbi on Living Her Dream: Fame, Fitness, and the Action-Packed Journey of “Baby John”

From child artist to Bollywood action star, Wamiqa Gabbi shares her journey of transformation, co-starring with Varun Dhawan, and living her passion with purpose.

The versatile star opens up about her transformative role, working with Varun Dhawan, and staying grounded in the whirlwind of showbiz.

“In life, nothing goes as expected,” says Wamiqa Gabbi, reflecting on her remarkable career. “In my case, everything just went better.” The talented actress, known for her dynamic roles across Punjabi, Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam cinema, is now making waves with her latest film, Baby John. Playing the fierce and determined Tara, Gabbi steps into the shoes of an action star, a role she describes as both challenging and exhilarating.

A Journey of Preparation and Precision

Gabbi’s portrayal of Tara—a teacher who becomes an unlikely hero in the face of danger—is a testament to her dedication. From rigorous fitness training to performing stunts that impressed even the seasoned crew, she has proven her mettle. Remarkably, scenes scheduled to take hours were wrapped up in just two, a feat that earned her the admiration of her team.

“The whole universe conspired to make this role happen,” she shares. An old friend turned fitness trainer became instrumental in her preparation, helping her achieve not just physical readiness but a newfound lifestyle. “I feel healthier, fit, and ready to embrace aging gracefully,” she laughs, describing how her fitness journey evolved from a career necessity to a personal passion.

A Film with Heart and Heroics

Baby John, directed by Kalees, is a Hindi adaptation of Atlee’s 2016 Tamil hit Theri. The story revolves around an ex-cop, played by Varun Dhawan, who confronts a sex-trafficking gang to protect his daughter. Gabbi’s Tara emerges as a key ally, showcasing resilience and compassion in equal measure.

The film, she explains, is a mix of emotions, action, and a vital message: “To be a good person.” Despite the weighty subject, Gabbi assures audiences that Baby John balances its serious undertones with moments of fun and drama.

Collaboration and Camaraderie

Gabbi fondly recalls working alongside Dhawan, praising his supportive nature. “He made sure I was comfortable and not intimidated,” she says, adding that Dhawan’s protective demeanor extended beyond the set to promotions. Their camaraderie reflects the film’s central theme—how upbringing shapes individuals.

From Child Artist to Leading Lady

Gabbi’s Bollywood journey began with a role in Jab We Met, where she worked alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor. The experience left an indelible mark on her, sparking a dream to work again with director Imtiaz Ali. “It would be beautiful to complete the circle and be his leading lady,” she says with a smile.

Today, she cherishes every moment on set, focusing on the joy of storytelling rather than the fleeting nature of fame. “I’m literally living my dream,” she says, grounding her success in gratitude.

With Baby John now in cinemas, Wamiqa Gabbi stands tall as a multifaceted star embracing new challenges, staying true to her roots, and inspiring audiences with her passion and positivity.
