Dubai is set to introduce two new Salik toll gates this November, increasing the total number of toll gates in the city from eight to ten.

The new toll gates will be located at Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road and Al Safa South on Sheikh Zayed Road, between Al Meydan Street and Umm Al Sheif Street. These locations were chosen to optimize traffic flow and reduce congestion in key areas.

Impact on Traffic Flow:

The Business Bay Crossing gate is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on Al Khail Road by 12 to 15 percent and decrease traffic volume on Al Rabat Street by 10 to 16 percent, redirecting traffic to alternative routes such as the Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud bridges and Ras Al Khor Street.

Similarly, the Al Safa South gate aims to ease right-turn traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road to Meydan Street by 15 percent, thereby optimizing traffic flow on Financial Centre Road, First Al Khail Street, and Al Asayel Street.

Salik’s Vision for Dubai’s Transport Infrastructure:

Ibrahim Sultan Al Haddad, CEO of Salik, commented on adding the new toll gates: “The addition of new toll gates in two increasingly busy areas marks the latest milestone in the growth plan that we set out at the time of Salik’s initial public offering.

Our partnership with RTA in launching these new gates is another important step in our journey to enhancing Dubai’s transport infrastructure with smart and sustainable mobility solutions.”

He further emphasized that these developments are aligned with Dubai’s Urban Plan 2040, which concentrates on sustainable and efficient urban growth. The new gates are intended to improve overall mobility throughout the city, enabling smoother and more efficient travel for road users.

What is Salik?

Salik, meaning “clear and moving” in Arabic, is Dubai’s automatic free-flowing road toll collection system. Launched in 2007, the system consisted of eight toll gates around the city.

Motorists are charged Dhs4 to pass through each gate, and the fee is automatically deducted from a prepaid account.
